Dunbar Milby Williams Pittman & Vaughan, PLLC (DMWPV) was founded in 1966. The firm has 29 employees, including 18 Registered Professional Engineers and six graduate engineers (EIT’s), with two full service offices in Virginia: Richmond and Charlottesville. This makes us one of the largest firms in central Virginia dedicated solely to structural engineering.
Although we are certified in Virginia and Maryland as a small business, this is not the primary reason clients want to work with us. Our firm has clients, not projects, which means our focus is on being accessible and responsive, and performing to your expectations, resulting in a successful project. Our clients say things like “They are an elite firm and recognized accordingly” and “They’re one of the good ones”.
DMWPV is both mature and progressive. We offer the stability and experience of an established firm and the pace and innovation of a contemporary firm. In early 2017, we were thrilled to be awarded ACEC Virginia’s Pinnacle Award for VCU’s Children’s Hospital of Richmond Pavilion, along with the project’s geotechnical engineer.
DMWPV provides structural engineering services for an average of $45,000,000 of construction each month. Clients include architects, governmental institutions and agencies, engineering firms, industry and the general public. The sectors we work in are highly varied, with the most prominent being higher education, healthcare, K-12 schools, athletic facilities, municipal buildings including libraries and courthouses, and parking structures. We also have special expertise in adaptive reuse of historic structures. Structures have included wood, steel, cast-in-place and precast concrete, and reinforced masonry. Foundation types include steel, concrete and wood piles, caissons, floating mats, and standard spread footings.
